Royalty-free licence: what you can and can't do with our models

Licences are the part of buying 3D models that people read least and worry about most. We wrote this article to answer the common questions in plain language. It is a summary, not a replacement: the full rules are in our Terms, and if anything here differs from the Terms, the Terms apply.

The short version

When you buy a model on 3dpolyx, you get the right to use it in your own personal and commercial projects. You do not get the right to resell or share the model file itself.

That is the core idea. Everything else follows from it.

What the licence gives you

After a successful payment, you may use the model in personal or commercial projects. The right is:

  • Non-exclusive — other customers can buy and use the same model.

  • Worldwide — no geographic limits.

  • Non-transferable and non-sublicensable — the right belongs to the buyer and cannot be passed on or resold.

There is no separate licence certificate. Your right to use the model starts automatically when the purchase is completed, and your order history in your account is your proof of purchase.

What you can do

You can use a purchased model as part of a finished project, for example:

  • a video game or mobile app, free or paid;

  • an animation, film or motion graphics piece;

  • an architectural or interior visualisation;

  • an advertisement or product video for yourself or a client;

  • a website, AR experience or product configurator;

  • a presentation, educational material or printed image.

You can sell those finished projects. A paid game featuring our Toy Fire Truck or a client commercial with our Red Convertible Roadster is fine.

You can also modify the model for your project: change its geometry, size, textures, materials or file format. Converting a GLB to FBX for your engine is allowed.

What you can't do

Unless we have agreed otherwise in writing, you may not:

  • resell the model or its source files;

  • share or distribute the model files to other people;

  • upload the model to another 3D store, library, repository or file-sharing service;

  • offer the model as a standalone downloadable asset;

  • sublicense the model or give anyone independent rights to it;

  • claim to be the author or owner of the original model;

  • use it in a way that breaks the law or someone else's rights.

Modifying a model does not change this. An edited version of our model is still based on our model, and you cannot sell or share it as an asset on its own.

The key distinction

The simplest test: is the model part of something bigger, or is it the product itself?

  • A game level where the Low-Poly Red Fox runs through the forest — part of something bigger. Allowed.

  • A "forest animals pack" on another asset store that includes our fox — the model is the product. Not allowed.

Common questions

I am a freelancer. Can I use a model in a client project? Yes, as part of the finished work you deliver: the video, the render, the game build. Do not hand the client the source model file as a separate asset for them to reuse elsewhere; if they need the file, they should buy it themselves.

Can my team use one purchase? The licence belongs to the buyer. If you work in a team and need shared access, contact us at support@3dpolyx.com and we will help.

Can I 3D-print a model? For personal use, ask us; for selling printed products, contact us first so we can agree terms.

Do I need to credit 3dpolyx? Credit is not required, but we always appreciate it.

What if I am not sure? Write to support@3dpolyx.com before you use the model. We would rather answer a question than resolve a misunderstanding later.
